When you choose Maine seafood, there’s a whole coast behind your meal. Fishermen, sea farmers, seafood businesses, and coastal communities all help bring that food to the table.
We’re proud to announce that Get Maine Lobster has joined Gulf of Maine Tastemakers, a program of the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) that brings businesses and institutions together to build demand for regional seafood.
For us, joining is an opportunity to connect our customers more closely with the region that gives Get Maine Lobster its name.
What Is Gulf of Maine Tastemakers?
Gulf of Maine Tastemakers is a network of restaurants, retailers, cafeterias, and other businesses that champion regional seafood.
Led by GMRI, the program encourages members to source local seafood, introduce customers to a wider variety of regional options, and share the stories and benefits behind those choices.
Its vision connects three things that matter deeply to this region: resilient coastal communities, healthy ocean ecosystems, and healthy people.
That means looking beyond what’s on the plate to understand where seafood comes from and the people whose livelihoods depend on it.
Why Regional Seafood Matters
Maine lobster may be the seafood that first comes to mind when you think of our coast. But the Gulf of Maine’s food story also includes other fish, shellfish, and sea vegetables.
Building demand for that variety gives more regional seafood a place at the table. It also helps customers discover foods they might otherwise overlook.
Choosing regional seafood can support the fishermen, sea farmers, and businesses working along our coast. Asking about its origin helps make those connections more visible.
And when customers understand what they’re buying, they can make more informed choices about the seafood they serve at home.
Why Get Maine Lobster Joined
Our customers know us for Maine lobster. Membership in Gulf of Maine Tastemakers gives us a way to participate in a broader conversation about regional seafood and its future.
The program offers opportunities to learn, connect with others in the seafood community, and access guidance on sourcing and traceability.
We’re excited to be part of a network that helps people understand the value of seafood from this region. We also look forward to sharing more of that story with you: the species, the sources, and the communities behind a memorable seafood meal.
Bring a Little More Maine to Your Table
The next time you plan a lobster dinner or explore a different regional seafood, take a moment to learn where it comes from.
Ask questions. Get curious about unfamiliar species. Learn about the people who harvest and grow your food.
That curiosity is part of what Gulf of Maine Tastemakers is working to encourage, and we’re proud to join the effort.
