When you're feeling extra fancy, reach for our juicy Empress (Jonah) Crab Claws for a snack fit for royalty.
Tender, meaty and oh-so-sweet, the Jonah Crab is landed fresh year-round, and harvested inshore and offshore by lobster boats fishing around the Gulf of Maine. Its flaky, sweet meat is rich and often compared to the flavor of its popular Pacific cousin, the Dungeness. Larger crabs are hand-selected especially to be sold as premium “Empress” claws, which is the entire arm and claw attached. Not only are Empress Claws irresistible, they're also easy to enjoy, because no shell cracking is needed to access the juicy meat. Ours are steamed to perfection and frozen immediately to trap the sweet, ocean flavor – and arrive ready to be eaten and enjoyed once thawed. Dining like royalty doesn't get much easier than this!
Discover the secret treasure of the North Atlantic....the Jonah Crab - once tried, you'll be hooked!
Wild-caught off the coast of Maine, the once pesky Jonah Crab was despised by lobstermen for years, because they worked their way into the lobster pots to steal the bait. Once freed from the traps they were tossed back into the Atlantic under a shower of curses. One day, someone had the sense to take them home and put them in the pot. Turns out that the Jonah crabs were delicious, and a cottage industry sprung up in Maine steaming, picking and selling their meat. And it turned out that the larger ones, had nice juicy "Empress" claws that gave the coveted Stone Crab claws from Florida a run for their money (at about half the price). Today, Jonah crabs have found their niche in the marketplace, and with increasing popularity as folks discover this sweet, succulent treat.
Our lavish Empress Jonah Crab Claws don't require cracking and come in generous portions of about 6 to 8 pieces to the pound.
These royally delicious crab claws are amazing served with some tangy seafood cocktail sauce, aioli, hot sauce, or even some simple drawn butter like you would lobster. Whatever you decide, with our Empress Crab Claws, you can't go wrong.
